Toddler Care in Chilliwack, BC (18-36 Months)
Toddler Care is our program for children aged 18 to 36 months at Petits Pals Childcare, a licensed child care centre in Chilliwack, BC. As toddlers grow more independent, the program builds on the Reggio Emilia approach with a focus on exploration, open-ended play, and social development.
Ratios and Staffing
Toddler Care is staffed at one educator for every four children, with each child assigned a primary caregiver for consistency.
A Day Full of Discovery
Daily Schedule
6:30 to 8:30 a.m.: Arrival, diapering, and free play, including building with blocks, sensory play, and imaginative play with dolls or animals
8:30 to 10:30 a.m.: Morning snack, diapering, circle time, learning activities, shape sorting, simple math games, and creative art projects
10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.: Outdoor exploration and movement time
12:00 to 3:00 p.m.: Lunch, diapering, nap time, snack time and diapering
3:00 to 5:00 p.m.: Creative arts, painting, sculpting with clay, music exploration, group games and music
5:00 to 5:30 p.m.: Free play and departures

Gross motor activities like climbing, running, and fine motor skills through puzzles, drawing, and play with building materials.

Communication through songs, interactive books, and dialogue, helping toddlers expand their vocabulary.

Cooperative play, turn-taking, and learning to express emotions constructively through group activities.
🔎 Cognitive Development
Hands-on exploration through building, problem-solving activities, and sensory experiences.

Growing Independence
Toileting
Toilet training begins when a child shows signs of readiness, such as expressing awareness of a wet or soiled diaper. Pull-ups are recommended in the early stages, with extra clothing provided in case of accidents. Once a child shows confidence and consistency, families are notified that the child is ready for underwear. In the case of an accident, a child returns temporarily to diapers, with the training process continuing at home.
Diapering
Diapers are checked at least every two hours and upon waking, and changed promptly when soiled or wet.
Screen Time and Active Play
Screen time is limited to 30 minutes per day for children over the age of two, focused on educational or interactive content only.
